Trastevere
TRILUSSA SQUARE
Characteristic square houses the monument of the poet Trilussa, and it is mastered by the “Fontanone” of Gianicolo.
ST. MARY IN TRASTEVERE
The medieval facade is adorned with a mosaic frieze dating from the XII century. This is the oldest church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Rome. Facing the Church the square is one of the most famous meeting place for the people of Trastevere
ST. CECILIA AND THE CRYPT
Pope Paschal I built this Church which houses many masterpieces: the middle age ciborio of Arnolfo di Cambio, the marble statue of S.Cecilia by Stefano Maderno and the big mosaics in the apse with the Jesus ant Saints. In the underground Roman houses and the precious Cript.
TIBER ISLAND
Natural ford of Tiber, this Island is linked to the banks with two roman bridges: Cestio and Fabricio, both from the I century b.C.
Sacred to Esculapio, in imperial ages it housed an hospital and also today houses the Ospedale Fatebenefratelli and the Ospedale Israelitico.
The Church of S. Bartolomeo “de insula”, built by Ottone III in 1083, was restored in baroque style.
