APPIAN WAY

The via Appia is one of the most important and best preserved streets of the ancient roman network. The “Regina Viarum”, laid out by the Censor Appius Claudius, stars at the Porta Capena and links Rome with Brindisi.  Like all the roads leading to Rome was paved with huge blocks of basalt and lined with monuments of various kind (Catacombs).
