Tivoli Este Villa

Heritage of UNESCO, this is the example of the ‘500 villa with interesting mannerist  frescoes. The villa and the garden were projected by Pirro Ligorio who started working in 1550 for the cardinal Ippolito d’Este and both inspired the fashion of the Italian garden in all Europe. The garden is also famous for its wonderful water games.

BICCHIERONE FOUNTAIN

This big fountain made by Bernini in a shape of a big bowl is at the beginning of the stairs leading to the italian garden.

THE ROMETTA

A fanciful description of Rome: the marble boat representing the Isola Tiberina is surrounded by fake roman ruins and spectacular spouting of  water.

THE OVATO

A semicircular structure in three levels where the running water creates an imposing scenography.

NEPTUNE FOUNTAIN AND ORGAN FOUNTAIN

The most spectacular and impressive of all the fountains. Located at the end of the tanks of fish ponds, is launching its powerful jets to the terrace above, where the mechanical device is running (at fixed times) of the same melodies created by the water fountain.

DRAGON FOUNTAIN

Four large stone dragons, gathered around a central jet, throw jets of water from the mouths at the center of the basin flanked by two staircases. Built in less than a month for the visit of Pope Gregory XIII Boncompagni, whose coat of arms is a dragon.

100 CAMMERELLE

A long line of 100 water spouts lining the avenue above, spurting water from three different levels, covered with maidenhair and decorated with the symbols of Este: the lily and the eagle.
